How to Remove Spider Veins

At the Vascular Experts Florida, we remove spider veins using one of two techniques. Either, we apply a treatment called sclerotherapy that involves injecting spider veins with a medication that causes them to collapse and disappear, or we use topical laser therapy which enables the body to clear away any unwanted vascular tissue. Sometimes, we may use both treatments in combination.

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are red, blue, or purple veins that are highly visible on the surface of the skin. They usually take the form of narrow lines and often cluster in bunches or webs.

Spider veins are generally not a threat to your health, but they are indicative of damage. When the valves controlling the flow of blood through veins degrade, it leads to pooling in the capillaries. Eventually, the trapped blood causes the blood vessel walls to bulge, leading to visible colored streaks on the outside.

Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins

Sclerotherapy is one of Dr. Vargas’ most popular treatments for eliminating unwanted spider veins. The technique involves injecting unsightly veins with foam or solution that causes the blood vessels to collapse on themselves. As the veins die, the body naturally processes them, reducing their visibility on the surface of the skin. At the same time, the vascular system reroutes flow to the surrounding tissues, ensuring that they maintain a constant supply of blood.

Benefits of Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a powerful technique that can help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Here are some of the benefits that it offers:

  • Simplicity: Sclerotherapy is a straightforward procedure and one that we conduct regularly at the Vascular Experts Florida. It doesn’t require any hospitalization or overnight stays, making it easy to include in your schedule easily. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes, and once you’re done, you’re able to return to your regular activities immediately.
  • Relieves aching limbs: Spider veins are usually a purely cosmetic issue. However, in some patients, they can cause aching limbs. Thus, in some cases sclerotherapy may be able to reduce or eliminate these symptoms, improving your quality of life.
  • Impressive results: Sclerotherapy is a highly-rated procedure among both professional cosmetic surgeons and patients. Most people see a dramatic reduction in the appearance of their spider veins after treatment, allowing them to live their lives more confidently.

Am I a Candidate for Spider Vein Removal?

Sclerotherapy is generally a safe procedure, making it suitable for nearly everyone who has unwanted red, blue or purple veins visible through their skin. It is ideal for patients at risk of the condition, including those in occupations that require long periods of standing, those with a history of spider veins in the family, and those who are obese.

The therapy, however, is not suitable for patients who have had recent blood clotting issues. In addition, you must not have given birth in the previous three months.
