How Does Sclerotherapy Work?

The most common and effective treatment of varicose veins is sclerotherapy, a minimally-invasive technique of collapsing dysfunctional veins without surgery. A sclerosing agent is injected directly into the damaged vessels to create scarring. This scar tissue blocks the veins, which collapse and are absorbed by the body. Blood flow is rerouted to healthier vessels deeper within the tissues. Sclerotherapy is also a good solution for spider veins. You’re left with smoother skin and reduced pain, swelling, burning, cramping, discoloration, or other symptoms caused by these veins.

Am I A Good Candidate?

Sclerotherapy isn’t dependent on skin type, though it does work better on smaller varicose and spider veins. Schedule a consultation with The Vascular Experts Florida to see if you can benefit from sclerotherapy.

How Long Does Varicose Vein Treatment Take?

Your sclerotherapy session is done in-office and will take around 15 minutes to complete. A fine needle is used to inject the solution into your dysfunctional veins, irritating the vein lining and causing them to collapse. You’ll be fitted with compression stockings following your procedure.

What Results Will I See?

Treated veins fade within 3-4 weeks, and for some patients, no additional treatment is necessary. It’s not uncommon, however, to require multiple sessions, especially if the dysfunctional vessels occur in more than one area of your body.

Is There Any Downtime?

It’s important to be up and mobile after your varicose vein treatment to prevent blood clots. While you’ll need to wear compression stockings for 1-3 weeks, you may resume normal activities immediately after your appointment.
