Ready for varicose vein free legs?

Venous reflux of the saphenous vein system in the legs is the most common cause of varicose veins, and prior to 2000, vein stripping or sclerotherapy for smaller dysfunctional veins were the only treatment options. Today, there’s Varithena®, and The Vascular Experts Florida is proud to bring this advanced treatment option to patients in the Greater Orlando Area.

How Does Varithena® Work?

When the valves in the saphenous veins cease functioning properly, blood backflows and pools, causing significant leg discomfort and bulging vessels known as varicose veins. Varithena® is the first FDA-approved Polidocanol injectable foam, a sclerosing agent that addresses the symptoms caused by superficial venous insufficiency and varicose veins. Dr. Vargas injects the foam into the diseased veins through a small needle or catheter causing them to collapse and scar down over the next few days.

Am I A Good Candidate?

Varithena® is an ideal treatment for patients who wish to reduce the discomfort of varicose veins like heaviness, throbbing, aching, restlessness or itching.

How Long Does Varithena® Take?

Varithena® polidocanol treatments take only around 30 minutes and are performed at The Vascular Experts Florida clinic by Dr. Vargas, a Board-Certified vascular surgeon. Using ultrasound guidance, your doctor numbs the area and inserts the needle or catheter into your dysfunctional vein to deliver the foam. Compression stockings will be applied following the procedure and patients can resume their normal routine once they leave the office. It will be important to follow the post-treatment instructions to ensure optimal results.

What Results Will I See?

Once the pressure on your veins is relieved, your varicose veins diminish and fade over the following weeks, or months. You’ll attend follow-up appointments for ultrasound scans to ensure the treatment is working as intended and without complications.

Is There Any Downtime?

Post-treatment care is important for your healing, which begins with walking to prevent blood clot formation. You’ll be free to resume light activity while avoiding heavy exertion. Compression stockings should be worn for 2 weeks and you’ll need to walk for at least 10 minutes a day for the first month. Follow-up appointments and ultrasound scans will be scheduled to ensure your veins are healing as expected.
