What Can I Do to Get Rid of Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins can do a number on one’s self-confidence. It’s understandable; varicose veins – which appear in the form of bulging, discolored veins – can make it hard to wear shorts, dresses, or bathing suits without feeling like your veins are on show for the world to see.

While spider veins are largely considered to be cosmetic and varicose veins may be related to an underlying venous problem, there are plenty of treatments out there that can help you get rid of varicose veins – for good. At The Vascular Experts Florida, we offer a wide variety of treatments for varicose veins, including:

Windermere Sclerotherapy

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT)

This innovative treatment uses the power of laser light energy to directly treat varicose veins

Here’s how it works: a catheter is placed inside the diseased vein through a very small puncture.  From there, pulses of laser light energy are delivered to the vein; this heat energy triggers the vein to close, which seals off blood flow (don’t worry, it’s not dangerous or harmful). Once blood flow is closed off and re-routed to normal veins in your leg, the vein eventually scars down and is absorbed by the body, leaving behind smooth, bulge-free skin.

Sclerotherapy

EVLT uses laser light energy to close up and treat varicose veins, sclerotherapy uses medication to trigger the same effect. Sclerotherapy involves the direct injection of polidocanol, a medication approved by the FDA for this condition, into the varicose vein. This solution immediately irritates the vein walls, causing them to close up and block off blood flow. Like with EVLT, once the blood flow is redistributed, the dead vein is reabsorbed back into the body.

Microphlebectomy

Microphlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses microscopic incisions to manually remove the varicose vein from underneath the skin. These veins can be removed without requiring stitches, meaning this treatment can deliver fast results with minimal downtime or recovery.
